Nature Window: WaterWater was the first thing that was here when God created the earth. It takes up most of the earth's surface now. It is so important to life on earth, including us. Let's learn some important facts about this special substance. First, water has different names. Maybe you have heard of some of them. Water, ice, steam, H2O. Then there are the different forms of water that we see or hear about as weather - rain, fog, clouds, snow, sleet, humidity. Maybe you didn't even realize that you were interacting with water so much because you knew it by another name! Water exists in 3 different forms or phases - solid, liquid, and gas. Liquid is what you normally call water. Ice is solid water. Steam is gas water. When water changes from liquid to solid ice, it expands (or spreads out). This is why ice floats on water and why ice can break containers apart when it forms. Steam is super hot water. You can see the steam already changing back to liquid water as a fog when it comes out of boiling water. Otherwise, steam is invisible. Every living thing on earth depends on water to live. It helps living things maintain body temperature better. It acts like a train inside living things, carrying other important nutrients or particles around. Water is also good for our health. Drinking enough clean water helps your body move the train of water around, so your body can carry nutrients to all your body cells and carry waste easily out of your body. Water fills in spaces between our bones, so when we bend, our bones don't rub together. Water forms a protective layer around our brain and around a baby in the womb to keep fragile parts from bumping around with all of our moving around. There are lots more ways that water helps our bodies. Watch this video to learn more. Our Bible story is about a pool of water that people thought was visited by an angel to make sick people well. One man had been sick 38 years! They didn't realize that Jesus offers us "living water" when we accept His friendship into our lives. Just as regular water makes life possible on earth, this "living water" is the Holy Spirit - God who lives inside of us and makes God's power real in our lives when we believe His Bible promises. Below are some options for experiencing the nature lesson this month. Choose one each week.
1. WALK - Go outside and look for any water you can find. Look up in the sky (clouds). Look under your feet. Remember, we can't drink any of that water! 2. PRETEND - Set up an indoor water play station. Place some water in a big bowl. Put some plastic fish, frogs, or ducks in it (or cut out some from foam paper). Use some small cups to pour and explore the water in your mini "pond." To make it more fun, add some dish soap!
3. MAKE - Make a water-theme picture like the one in this post. Put water in the sea, snow on the mountain top, clouds and rain in the sky. Even though the water looks different in its various forms, it's still all water.
Jesus said the Holy Spirit is the "living water." Like water, the Holy Spirit has shown Himself in different forms. He appeared as a dove and as tongues of fire. He is also invisible most of the time. 4. DO - Let's pretend to make clouds -- suspended water droplets in the sky. Draw a grid of water dots on a piece of paper. Each player connects one pair of dots at a time. Explain as you close a set of dots that clouds form when water droplets in the air clump together. Memory Mastery:New Testament TimelineThis quarter, while we are learning the stories from Jesus' life, we will memorize the New Testament events from our Bible timeline. Children who memorize their New Testament timeline will earn a Bible artifact to add to their collection. All they need to do is fill in the blanks.
Mission Trip: Grow the HospitalThis quarter, there are three 13th Sabbath mission projects in the Inter-American Division. In Villahermosa, Mexico, the world church is going to expand the Southeast Adventist Hospital to include a new community center, so the hospital can offer even more health services and classes to the people in the community. Please bring your coins all quarter long to dedicate to the 13th Sabbath mission project. Let's learn some fun facts about Mexico, the biggest country in the Inter-American Division.
Bible Story: Sick a Long TimeReference: John 5:1-9 Jesus walked alone one Sabbath day on the north side of Jerusalem. There at the gate where the sheep and other animals for sacrifice were brought into the city was a pool called Bethesda surrounded by five porches. Drawing near to the pool, Jesus found many sick people hanging around. They believed that if the water stirred, an angel would heal anyone who first got into the pool. Those people didn't know that the Great Healer was among them right now! Looking around, Jesus spotted a sad man laying on a mat who had been sick for 38 years. Jesus kneeled beside him and asked, "Would you like to be healed?" The man answered Jesus, "Whenever the water stirs, no one is available to help me get in the pool. Someone always reaches the pool before me." The man looked sadly at the pool again. Then Jesus said, "Get up, take up your bed, and walk." The sick man believed that Jesus' words would be true for him. As pushed himself up, he discovered strength in his arms and legs again! He was healed! The man rolled up his mat, put it under his arm, and walked to the temple praising God. Our Bible story reminds me of the prayer verse, Psalm 107:20, which says, "He sent His word and healed them..." (NKJV). When the sick man accepted Jesus' words to get up, he received the strength to obey Jesus' command and discovered healing in his body. God wants to heal us and make us new again, too, when we believe and act on His Word, the Bible. He will give us strength to obey every time. Dear Father God, Thank You for Your Word the Bible. Please heal my heart and make me a new person. In Jesus' Name, Amen Below are some options for experiencing the story. Choose one each week.
