Nature Journal: Different, but HelpfulIn the garden, you can discover all kinds of helpful relationships between different living things. Scientists call this special friendly relationship, mutual symbiosis. When insects, like bees and butterflies, visit the flowers in the garden, they are looking for food. Plants that have flowers need help with pollination, so they can make seeds. So, plants offer the insects nectar, a sweet, yummy drink, and the bees and butterflies take pollen from flower to flower. Everyone is happy! Under the ground, there is another friendship happening between plants and microorganisms. Bacteria, fungi, protozoa, and nematodes live beside the plant roots. Plants feed the microbes with the food they make from the sun. The tiniest microbes are eaten by larger ones. The larger microbes secrete waste that provides nutrients back to the plant. Everyone gets the food they need! Mutual symbiosis is a friendship between two unlikely things. Peter wanted to tell others about Jesus. Cornelius brought a lot of people together to hear what Peter had to say. Even though they were from different cultures, Peter and Cornelius became friends for Jesus and together helped others know Jesus better. Memory Mastery: Old Testament TimelineThis quarter we are memorizing our Old Testament timeline. Can you help your child fill in the blanks below? Children who can recite their timeline with me will earn a Bible artifact to add to their collection.
Mission Helper: A School in CanadaThis quarter we are bringing our coins to raise money for a new school in Canada for Native Americans. Let's help Jesus in His mission to tell all the children in the world about His love for them. Bible Story: Make New FriendsReference: Acts 10 After Pentecost, many people in Jerusalem joined the early church and were filled with the Spirit. It was time for people outside the Jewish faith to learn more about Jesus. One special person Jesus loved who was not Jewish was a man named Cornelius. He was a Roman Centurion, but he loved God with all his heart. He prayed to know more. Jesus sent an angel to Cornelius through a vision. The angel said, “God is answering your prayers. Send some men to Joppa where a man named Peter is staying. Ask Peter to come here and speak to you.” Right away, Cornelius sent 3 men to Joppa to find Peter. In Joppa, Peter was on the rooftop praying when God gave him a strange vision of a sheet holding all kinds of strange animals. While Peter wondered what the vision meant, suddenly Cornelius’ men were at the door. They wanted Peter to go with them. The Holy Spirit told Peter to go. When Peter got to the house, Cornelius had family and friends there to hear Peter talk to them about Jesus. Everyone accepted the good news of Jesus’ salvation, and the Holy Spirit anointed them, too! Peter realized that God wants everyone to be saved, even people who are very different from him. Our Bible story reminds me of the prayer verse, 1 Timothy 2:4, which says, “[God] desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth. " (NKJV). Peter discovered that people from other countries, like Cornelius, can make good friends for Jesus! In fact, we need God’s eyes to see that all people, no matter how they look or talk or what country they are from, are super special. God wants us to make friends with people from different cultures and countries. Will you make a new friend for Jesus? Dear Father God, You want everyone from all cultures and countries to be saved. I want to make friends with others different from me. In Jesus' Name, Amen
