Nature Journal: How Wind is Formed

On a hot summer day, there is nothing that feels better than a cool breeze. That nice breeze is a form of wind.  Wind is what we feel when air moves around us.  We can’t see it, but we can feel it, hear it, and see other things move because of it.

Wind is formed when cool air and warm air are beside each other.  Cool air is heavy and sinks down to the ground.  Warm air is light and rises up in the air.  If you are in a place where the two air systems meet, you will feel the air move, as cool air replaces warm air in that place.

After Jesus left this earth, the disciples became very bold in praying for the Holy Spirit.  Jesus had taught them the secret to powerful prayer – praying in His name and claiming the promises in His Word. 

​As the disciples sent their prayers of praise, confession, and requests UP to God.  God answered their prayers and sent the Holy Spirit DOWN to them.  Whoosh! They felt the power of Holy Spirit move on them and through them.  They saw the Holy Spirit in the form of fire.  They heard the Holy Spirit speak through them in the form of other languages.  They were ready to work for God!

Memory Mastery: Old Testament Timeline

This quarter we are memorizing our Old Testament timeline.  Can you help your child fill in the blanks below, so he or she can earn a Bible artifact to add to their collection?

1. In the beginning, God made everything. Genesis 1 and 2
2. Adam and Eve sinned by eating the forbidden fruit. Genesis 3
3. God told Noah to build an ark, because He was sending a flood to wash the earth. Genesis 6 to 9
4. God chose the patriarchs to start the family of faith on earth – Abraham, Isaac, then Jacob.  Jacob’s name was changed to Israel. Genesis 12 to 36
5. The children of Israel became slaves in Egypt, but God freed them. Ex. 1 to 15
6. Moses received the 10 Commandments. Exodus 24 and 31:18
7. God showed Moses the sanctuary in heaven, so Moses could build the sanctuary on earth.  The sanctuary service teaches us how God saves us from sin. Exodus 25 to 31
8. The baby nation of Israel was 1st governed by judges.  During the time of the judges, God was supposed to be Israel’s King. Joshua, Judges, Ruth
9. When Samuel was Israel’s prophet and judge, Israel wanted to be like other nations and have a man as their king.  One special king God gave Israel was king David. 1 Sam. 16. God told David that Jesus would be born from his family. 2 Sam. 7
10. David’s son, Solomon, build God’s temple on earth. 1 Kings 6. Israel split into 2 nations, Israel in the north and Judah in the south.  King David’s children were in charge of Judah. 1,2 Kings and 1,2 Chronicles
11. Unfortunately, most of the kings of Israel and Judah were very wicked.  God sent many prophets to His people to warn them of their sins.
12. Finally, God allowed Israel to be destroyed by Assyria and Judah to be exiled to Babylon. 2 Kings 17, Daniel 1
13. The children of Judah were called Jews.  When they repented of their sins, God sent them back to their country to rebuild the city of Jerusalem. Ezra, Nehemiah

Bible Story: Welcome, Holy Spirit!

Acts 1 and 2
​After the resurrection, Jesus spent 40 days with the disciples here on earth.  As they walked up the Mount of Olives for the last time, Jesus said, “You will be baptized by the Holy Spirit soon.  But, you must wait in Jerusalem for Him.”  Suddenly, Jesus started to rise up in the air.  Higher and higher He went till the clouds received Him.

​The disciples gazed at Jesus to catch the last glimpse of Him.  Then, two angels appeared and said, “Jesus will someday come back to earth in the same way that you just saw Him go into heaven.” The disciples were excited.  Jesus was going to be with God the Father in heaven to pray for them and send the Holy Spirit!

​In Jerusalem, the disciples and all of Jesus’ friends, including His mother, Mary, gathered together to pray each day. They even said, I’m sorry, to each other for any bad thing they said or did to hurt someone. They became one big family, united by their love for Jesus.

​On the day of Pentecost, as the disciples were praying in the upper room, a strong wind blew through the house.  It was the Holy Spirit!  He then hovered over each disciple as tongues of fire.  When the disciples opened their mouths to praise God, they started speaking in other languages.  Now they could really tell the whole world about Jesus’ love!

Our Bible story reminds me of the prayer verse, Acts 1:8, in which Jesus says, “But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth." (NKJV).  A witness for Jesus is someone who tells the truth about what they have seen, heard, or known about Jesus. Have you seen Him answer prayers? Have you heard Him speak to you in the Bible? Do you know in your heart that He loves you?  If so, you can be a witness, too!

​Dear Father God, You want everybody to know about Jesus’ love. I want to be a witness for you.  In Jesus' Name, Amen
