Bible Story: Jesus Asks QuestionsReference: Luke 2 Young Jesus grew up in a little mountain village called Nazareth. Every year, his parents - Joseph and Mary - went to Jerusalem for the Passover. When Jesus was 12 years old, he got to go to Jerusalem with them. Passover was a special feast day of the Jews. It reminded them that God saved His people from slavery in Egypt. Jesus watched the ceremonies very carefully and thought about His Bible words. On the night of the first Passover, a lamb was killed, and its blood was painted on the door posts. When the destroying angel went through the land of Egypt, all the firstborn children in the homes with the blood on the door posts were saved from death. Jesus thought deeply about the lamb and stayed in the temple to talk to the teachers there. Did they know that God’s lamb was God’s Son? Meanwhile, Joseph and Mary headed back home to Nazareth. On the way, they chatted with friends and family. But after a day passed, they realized that young Jesus was not with them. "Have you seen Jesus?" they asked everyone. Oh no! Jesus was missing. Joseph and Mary headed back to Jerusalem. For 3 days, they searched for Jesus and worried about Him. When they finally found Jesus in the temple, He said, “Didn’t you know I need to do my Father’s work?” Then He pointed up to God. Prayer Verse and Prayer PromptOur Bible story reminds me of the prayer verse, 2 Peter 3:18, in which the Apostle Peter encourages us, “But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Glory be to him now and forever! Amen.” (ICB). You can grow up to know your purpose in life, too, like Jesus did – by asking questions about Jesus as you read God’s Word. Think about the true meaning of Passover. Jesus, the perfect Lamb of God, died for our sins so we could be free to obey Him and live forever with Him. You see, you were created to give God glory and be like Jesus. God’s glory is His shining presence.
Dear Father God, Thank You for sending Jesus to die for me. I want to be like Him and study the Bible, so I can give glory to you with my life. In Jesus’ Name, Amen Nature Walk: Plant Life CycleA life cycle describes how a living thing starts its life, grows up, reproduces (make babies) and dies. Plants are living things. Let’s review their life cycle. A plant starts its life as a seed. Seeds are not dead, as you might think! In fact, inside that dry seed is a tiny baby plant called the embryo along with some food. A seed waits to start growing until it is usually warm and wet. When it wakes up, it sends down a little root and pushes up a shoot (the baby stem). As long as the young plant gets water and has enough sunlight, it continues to grow adding more leaves along the way. The leaves turn sunlight into food for the plant. A mature plant forms flowers. If the flowers are pollinated, then seeds form inside the flower heads. Soon, the seeds are carried away to new places to start new plants when the conditions are right. Some plants die after forming seeds. Others keep living. Just as God guides the plant through all stages of its life cycle to fulfill its purpose, God will guide us, too, as we spend time in the sunshine of His Presence eating His Word! Soon, you will be able to carry the seeds of His Word to other hearts. Memory Mastery: The Lord's PrayerPlease help your child memorize the Lord’s Prayer this quarter.
