Bible Story: Building God's HouseReference: 1 Chronicles 22; 1 Kings 6, 7 Since the time of Moses, the Israelites worshiped God at the Tabernacle – a special tent where God met with them and accepted their offerings. Now that God had settled his people in their land and given them rest from war, it was time to build Him a better house. When King David was very old, he named his son Solomon to be king after him. David’s son, King Solomon, went to work to build God a house, called the temple. He followed the plans his father, King David, had drawn under the direction of the Holy Spirit. As David instructed him, Solomon used the materials David had set aside during his life for the temple. And Solomon asked David’s friend king Hiram of Tyre to send wood, workers, and other materials in exchange for wheat and oil. It took Solomon 7 years to build the temple. Hiram’s workers worked with Solomon’s workers. When the work was done, Solomon brought into the temple the golden furniture from the Tabernacle. Now it was time to celebrate! While the priests were dedicating the new house to God, God’s special cloud of glory filled the temple. God liked His new home! Solomon said a prayer of dedication for the people – that they would all stay true to God and follow Him with the whole heart. Our Bible story reminds me of the prayer verse, Psalm 122:1, in which David sings, “I was glad when they said unto me, Let us go into the house of the Lord” (KJV). Are you glad to come to God’s house every Sabbath? Did you know that it takes many helpers to not only build God’s house, but to keep everything clean and working properly? There are many ways you can help God’s house. You can bring your offering to Sabbath School each week. You can be gentle with the furniture and wipe your feet before entering the building. Most of all, you can come to church each week with a glad heart to meet with God and His people. Dear Father God, We are so glad to come to Your house each week. Help us take good care of your house. In Jesus’ Name, Amen Nature Walk: Building a NestHave you ever observed birds in early Spring? They form sweet little pairs that work together. If you look closely, you will be able to distinguish between mommy bird and daddy bird. They are very busy carrying things, like twigs, grass, string, and mud. They are busy preparing to have a family. They are making a nest! Nests come in all shapes and sizes. Some birds build their nests way up high in the trees. Others prefer to make them on the ground. Some look for bird houses to build their nests in. Others like their nests to be in natural holes. Birds make nests in order to keep safe the most special things to them – their babies. It’s their home while the babies are growing up. When the babies leave, the birds abandon their nest! God gives the birds wisdom on how to make their nest and where to find just the right materials, so their chicks will stay dry and warm. God also gave king Solomon wisdom on how to make the temple. He showed him how to work with King Hiram to get special materials. God will give you wisdom, too, on how to make things. Just ask!
