Bible Story: God Cares for ElijahReference: 1 Kings 17, 18 Israel had now split into two nations – Israel in the north and Judah in the south. King David’s children were in charge of Judah. King Ahab was one of the wicked kings in charge of Israel. His wife Jezebel brought many false prophets to Israel who taught the people to worship the false god Baal. The people thought Baal brought them rain and made the plants grow. How sad that they forgot all about their Creator God!  Many of the people of Israel disobeyed God and worshipped idols. They thought the false god Baal brought rain to them. Not true! (Shake finger no!) Image courtesy of Sweet Publishing and FreeBibleImages.org One day, God sent prophet Elijah to King Ahab. “God has sent me with a message,” he told King Ahab. “There will be no rain for 3 years until I say so.” King Ahab was angry. Run, Elijah, run! So Elijah ran all the way across the River Jordan to the Brook Cherith. There God took care of Elijah. He had clean water to drink. Everyday God sent the ravens to bring Elijah food.  God sent prophet Elijah to tell King Ahab that there would be no rain for 3 years. King Ahab was angry. He tried to hurt Elijah. Run, Elijah, run! (Run in place) Image courtesy of Sweet Publishing and FreeBibleImages.org Meanwhile in Israel, there was a great drought in the land. That means there was no rain. The plants stopped growing. The animals died. The people ran out of water to drink, but they still prayed to Baal to give them water. After 3 years, Elijah gathered the people of Israel to a special sacrifice. He prayed aloud, “God, show these people that only You are God.” God sent fire from heaven to burn the sacrifice. Then, God sent rain to the land.  God sent Elijah to the Brook Cherith to drink water. God sent ravens to bring Elijah food to eat. (Eat) Image courtesy of Sweet Publishing and FreeBibleImages.org Our Bible story reminds me of the prayer verse, Isaiah 45:20,21, in which God says, “People who carry idols of wood...pray to a god who cannot save them....There is no other God besides me. I am the only good God. I am the Savior.” (ICB). Sometimes we may forget like the people of Israel that our Creator God is the One who helps the plants grow, who sends rain to water the earth, who keeps our hearts beating and helps us take each breath. He is the only God, and it is our duty and joy to pray only to Him. And this God of love also wants to hear from you. Spend time with Him each day. Read His Word. Talk to Him. Dear Father God, You are my God. Thank You for sending Jesus to save me from sin and death. I will only pray to You. In Jesus’ name, Amen Nature Walk: Rain and the Water CycleDo you get disappointed when it rains? I used to get mad at the rain...until I worked on a farm. Then, I learned quickly that if it did not rain, I had to stand under that blistering sun and water the plants, especially the young ones. Rain is a form of precipitation, which means it is water that is falling from the clouds. Rain refills the water table, a special river of water that flows deep under the ground. As the sun shines bright, it causes water in lakes, rivers, streams and oceans to heat up. Some of the water evaporates and becomes vapor that rises high in the sky. The higher the vapor rises, the cooler it gets. Then the vapor condenses to form water droplets. A bunch of water droplets come together to form clouds! When the clouds get heavy with water droplets, the water falls to the earth as rain, snow, and ice!
