Bible Story: Peace, Be StillReference: Mark 4 Jesus had spent another day teaching the people in Capernaum near the Sea of Galilee. At the end of the day, He told His disciples, “Let’s go to the other side of the sea.” So, they got into a boat and set off. Other people heard what was going on and got into other boats to follow. Jesus, exhausted from a full day, fell asleep in the back of the boat. Suddenly, a scary windstorm appeared. The waves got bigger and bigger. The boat was being tossed to and fro. The disciples could not keep up with the water filling the boat. It was sinking! They almost lost hope of surviving. Then they remembered that Jesus was with them. He was still asleep in the back of the boat. The disciples shook Him awake. “Lord, save us!” they cried. Jesus opened His eyes and looked calmly at them. He read the terror in their faces, but He was perfectly at peace. Jesus got up in the rocky boat. Then He commanded the wind and waves, “Peace, be still.” Suddenly, the waves became flat and the wind stopped howling. The boat stopped rocking. Everything was still. Jesus turned to his disciples who were gazing at Him in shock and asked, “Why were you scared? Where is your faith?”
Prayer Verse and PromptOur Bible story reminds me of the prayer verse, Psalm 118:6, in which Psalmist says, “I will not be afraid because the Lord is with me”(ICB). Do you ever get scared? I used to be afraid of thunderstorms and going into new places where I had to meet new people. But, no matter where you are when you are afraid, remember the Lord is with you. You can always ask Jesus for help, like the disciples did. And he will calm your heart.
Dear Father God, Whenever I feel scared, help me remember that Jesus is with me. Then, I will not be afraid anymore. In Jesus' Name, Amen Nature Station: Weather What’s the weather like today? Weather is how we describe the air outside. When there are no clouds in the sky, we say it is sunny. When the sun is hidden behind clouds, we say it is cloudy. When water is falling, we say it is rainy. When there is rain, wind, loud cracking sounds, and bright streaks of light, we say it is a thunderstorm. But we don’t just describe the air by what we see, we also describe it by how it feels. Is it hot, warm, cool, or cold outside? When the air feels really thick, we call that humidity. It’s when there is a lot of water in the air, but it is not raining. The air can also feel dry. When two air masses are beside each other, but have different pressures (one is heavier than the other) – air can move. Moving air is wind. When wind is gentle, we call it a breeze. Otherwise, we usually say, it is windy! When wind travels really fast, it can be dangerous. It can knock down trees. There are special storms that have very high winds – tornadoes and hurricanes. Tornados start on land. Hurricanes start in the ocean. The weather can change very quickly, like it did for the disciples on the sea of Galilee. When dangerous weather is coming, the National Weather Service will send your parents announcements, so they know how to keep you safe. Jesus is still in charge of the weather. Don’t be afraid. Trust Him. Memory Master: God's Special BookPlease help your child memorize these important facts about God's special book, the Bible. The Bible is God’s special book. The Bible is actually made up of 66 little books all put together to make one big book. The Bible is divided into two big parts, the Old Testament and the New Testament. The Holy Spirit helped each Bible writer to write his book. The Bible tells us the story of salvation from creation until the end of time. If we read the Bible carefully, we will see Jesus leading God’s people in the Old Testament, as well as the New. In fact, when we prayerfully read the Bible, Jesus will lead us, too, in our daily lives, so we can become all God wants us to be. I expect each of you to do great things for Jesus. Hide His Word in your hearts and obey it. Mission Helper: A School for GuineaOur world church is focused on various projects in the West Central African Division. As a class, we have been focused on one of them - building a school in Guinea. I hope everyone can take a moment to give sometime this quarter to the World Church mission projects, so we can also participate in this special work.
