Sabbath School January 2
Early Bird Special: Play-doh Animals
Children who arrive between 9:30 and 9:45 AM get to do a bonus activity in Sabbath School. Today, our early birds made animals out of Play-doh. Our Bible story today is about how God created this world. He made all the creatures on days 5 and 6.
Nature Nugget: American Robin
Robins are common backyard bird in our part of the country. You often see them hopping around on the ground looking for worms, bugs, and berries to eat. Their eggs are easy to recognize because they are a bright blue color. When baby robins are born, they are very tiny and weak. Mommy robin works hard to find them food and keep them warm while they grow. "Peep, peep, peep," says baby robin, "I'm hungry." Mommy robin puts food in his mouth. The Bible says in 1 Peter 5:7, "He cares for you." Mommy robin takes such good care of baby robin, like God takes care of us.

Mission Trip: Angels on the Amazon
This quarter, our class is pretending to go on a mission trip to the South American division. We will be learning about the culture, geography, and people there. We will "meet" other Adventists over there who tell us about how God is working. We want to get all the supplies we will need to finish the 1st quarter mission project - building a floating church/clinic for the Amazon River, and building new churches in Paraguay and Uruguay.
The Amazon River is the longest river in South America, measuring almost 4,000 miles. It reaches from the Andes mountains in Peru to the Atlantic Ocean in Brazil. Many years ago, Pastor Halliwell and his family were the first Adventist missionaries to build a missionary boat called a Luzeiro, "Light Bearer," to take missionaries, mission supplies, and help to the people living along the river. One day, while traveling on the river, the Halliwells saw 3 men in a canoe. The men called out, "can you give us a tow upstream?" Pastor Halliwell helped them aboard. Suddenly one of the men grabbed the steering wheel and jerked the boat! Whew! He actually saved their lives, because there were jagged rocks in the river to avoid. Then, the men said, "You can let us off here, thanks!" Pastor Halliwell let them off, and suddenly they disappeared. Pastor Halliwell realized that God had sent angels to protect them.
