Bible Story: The SanctuaryReferences: Exodus 25:1-8; 31:1-11; 35; 36:1-6; 40:17-35 While Moses was in Mount Sinai, God told him, “Let the Israelites make me a special place to live among them called the sanctuary. Let them bring Me gifts of gold, silver, and bronze, blue, purple and red thread, fine linen, goat hair, leather, acacia wood, olive oil, spices, and precious stones. Make the sanctuary exactly like the one I will show you. I will put my Spirit on Bezalel and Oholiab, so they can make everything for the sanctuary and teach others to help them.” God’s people were excited to bring offerings for God’s special place. When Moses saw that they had enough materials, he told the people to stop bringing things. Bezalel and Oholiab and their helpers got to work making each piece of the sanctuary just as God showed Moses. They made the special tent called the Tabernacle. Around it was a fence of white linen curtains. The area inside the fence was called the courtyard. They made all the special pieces of furniture for the courtyard and tabernacle. They also made special clothes for Aaron the High Priest, his sons the priests, and the Levites their helpers. When the sanctuary was complete, God’s cloud filled the tabernacle. Here the Israelites would worship God and burn their offerings. Our Bible story reminds me of the prayer verse, Exodus 25:8, in which God told Moses, “And let them make Me a sanctuary, that I may dwell among them"(NKJV). In order for God to dwell or live with us, He needs to take all our sin away. Everything made for the sanctuary and all the services done there reminded the Israelites about Jesus taking their sins away. He is the Lamb of God who took our sin and died for us. He is our Great Hight Priest who asks God to forgive us. He wants us to send us the Holy Spirit to live inside of us, so we can have power to overcome sin and be tabernacles for God. Dear Father God, It is so awesome that You want to dwell with me! I want Jesus to take away my sin so there is nothing between us! In Jesus’ Name, Amen Nature Journal: Immune SystemEven though the Israelites had agreed to obey God’s rules, the 10 Commandments, God knew that they would break them. That’s why He gave them the sanctuary and its services, so they could get forgiveness and help to obey. The sanctuary reminds me of our immune system that God put in our bodies to help us overcome sickness if we break the 8 Laws of Health and contact germs. When you get sick, it is because invaders have come into your body, and your body is trying to fight them off. An invader may be a bad bacteria or a virus. Once your body detects an invader, it makes antibodies that help direct how to respond. White blood cells are sent to kill the invader. Your body raises its temperature, so the immune system can work harder. Keeping the 8 Laws of Health helps our immune system stay strong. It can destroy invaders without you even feeling sick. Washing our hands and not touching our mouth, nose and eyes are important ways we can help our immune system keep invaders out of the body.
